On Saturday, 9th October 2021, AJM Healthcare’s David Wales-Durrans and Guy Eatherington are “wheely” pushing themselves in support of the MNDA, by taking part in a half-marathon event organised by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Wheelchair Service user, Lee Taylor.
Lee, who is married with two children, was diagnosed with Bulbar onset MND in 2019 and whilst he was given a prognosis of two years, he has only just begun to need a wheelchair.
David said, “Lee recently put out a request on social media to hire/rent wheelchairs for the fundraising event and we were only too happy to help. MNDA is a very worthy charity to support and we wanted to give that little bit extra, so myself and Guy put ourselves forward to take part as well.”
Many of the participants are non-wheelchair users who will be paired up to each complete six-and-a-half miles around a 400-metre circuit.
Guy said, “We are delighted that we can not only loan the 14 manual wheelchairs for this event but also take part! Both myself and David, as non-wheelchair users, will be pushing ourselves to help Lee to raise the most money possible. This will give us both a small experience of, and some better understanding of the challenges faced by our wheelchair service users.”
Donations are being split between The Arthur Rank Hospice and Cambridgeshire MND Branch; two organisations close to Lee’s heart.
